Mercury Glassware

Mercury glass, also known as Poor Man’s Silver, was quite prevalent in the mid-1800s through the 1940s.  The pieces are made of thin, double walled glass through which a silvery mercury paint has been applied. Much of the mercury glass is silver, but colored mercury glass in blue, amber or pink is also found. We have a number of mercury glass vases, plates, globes, candlesticks and bottles. Judy finds mercury glass pieces all over Europe and most are unmarked except for some of the Art Deco pieces from the Czech Republic which are often stamped.
