Michael Coyne’s enthusiasm for design and interiors was apparent early on; as a child, he recalls adjusting furniture, lighting and accessories within his family home. After managing his family’s automotive interior parts business for 20 years, Michael took the plunge and launched a second career as a designer.
Best friend and noted designer Brian Killian had been asking Michael to work at his firm for some time, but Michael established his own design studio in 2003 and never looked back. Located within the Michigan Design Center, Michael’s studio includes a showroom with unique furniture and accessories found during annual buying trips to Europe.
The firm has designed projects as intimate as a master suite to entire large custom homes. Michael’s design projects have taken him throughout Michigan as well as Florida, suburban Chicago and East Hampton, New York. His style is modern and classic and incorporates new industry furniture pieces with antiques from around the world. His favorite projects tend to be very fluid with a mix of several periods and styles. Michael’s sense of space, scale and placement are keys in creating distinctive interiors. Clients appreciate his preoccupation with making every interior an authentic reflection of its owner.
Active within the community, Michael is a member of the Suite Dreams Project Design Board and supports several charities including Variety – The Children’s Charity, and DIFFA.
Michael’s design work has earned several awards and has been featured in the Detroit Free Press, Styleline, Hour, Detroit Home, Creative Homes, and Homestyle Magazine.
