Salon de Musique

Designer Vignette - November 2011

With his vignette Salon de Musique, designer Corey Damen Jenkins updates a classic French music room. A rare limited edition black lacquer baby grand piano by Bosendorfer takes center stage. Behind the piano, a wall of gilded mirrors and sconces reflect the shimmering light of French crystal chandeliers and a large waterfall style chandelier. One end of the room functions as an elegant and practical study with a pair of large painted French bookcases and Napolean-era black lacquer and ormolu desk. A tall pair of custom made table lamps with antique architectural fragments echo the updated neoclassical look. French gilded and caned armchairs offer comfortable seating and black aesthetic-era chairs mix in well. Guests can gather at the other end of the room, settling in to enjoy the music on the couch or faux bamboo and caned French armchairs or bergeres. Ready to dance? Set down your glass of wine on the round, glossy-finish Deco-era table or marble-top gilded French console. Mixing contemporary carpets, artwork and furniture with the gilded and lacquered antiques adds a fresh perspective to timeless classics.
